Spread the love

Activities and places to add to your Denver- BUCKET LIST.

When in Denver I recommend to check out these attractions.

I am not big into doing what everyone else does- like booking specific City tours, etc. I think it is a great option for many. But for us adventurous souls- We like to explore on our own. When traveling we are always looking for adventures. Trying new foods, meeting people, seeing the City or town and engaging in new experiences.

But sometimes there are some things that are a MUST do “Touristy attraction”. Here are a few places that I would highly recommend when your in the Denver, Colorado area. A few of the attractions are a short drive from Denver.

1. Denver Museum of Nature and Science-

Let me start of by saying…. THIS PLACE IS A MUST! We love Museums and it is a tradition in my family that on each Family trip that we experience, we have to check out some type of a Museum or Historical place. We were quite pleased with our visit to this great Nature & Science Museum.

There is so much to see and do. Lots of places to explore and free hands on activities. I was so surprised, there was so much to interact with at this Museum. I thought we were finished and then I found out that there was another floor to explore!

Plan to be there for hours on end! You will not want to leave!

There is a T-rex cafe that offers healthy food choices and snacks.

Museum admission (paid, pass, or membership) is required to attend Planetarium shows. Admission fees and hours are subject to change. Buy your ticket online and save on Museum admission.

The Bodies Exibit

During our visit the “Bodies Exibit” was on display.

My husband and my 2 boys were very excited to be able to see this tour. We have tried several times when the exhibit was in our City to check it out, but we never made it. I am so glad that we finally had the opportunity to check it out.

My husband loves this type of stuff, my younger Son wants to be a Scientist so this was beyond fascinating to him and my older Son is a history buff and very analytical so I got to hear all the facts about every detail of this exhibit.

I will tell you that this type of stuff normally disturbs me. I don’t like to watch graphic medical shows or surgery videos. But this was fascinating and very different. I really enjoyed this exhibit.

Lots of Fun going on through out the Museum

Hey Mr. Dinosaur!
Real Time Earth Satellite

Then there was the touch and feel hands on activities-

Materials found on planets
This one, Mom sat out. He dissected a pig lung.

Time to be a true Scientist…

Biology base camp was just one of the many activities spread throughout the interactive Museum. My older Son also participated as well as my husband and I. It was pretty neat to be able to do “real” experiments!

LOVE -not -Hate. My heart was happy.

The day that we visited, the museum was celebrating Love not Hate. LGBTQ day.

Denver is very open minded and loving. I found that people were very polite and helpful. I found they were very open to Alternative lifestyles, no discrimination of sex, religion or color and welcoming to all.

Great for all ages!

Lots to do for all ages from toddlers to adults. I hope you enjoy this attraction as much as my family and I did.

2. Red Rocks Amphitheater-

There was no snow on the ground but it was still chilly when we were visiting. The beautiful colors of the rocks appeared like magic stones when the sun glistened on them. I now know why they call it ” Red Rocks”.

and yes…I almost had a heart attack when Dad said it was okay to “climb” up to the top!
This boy is my adventure seeking, no fear and always having a good time kid!
Make sure to check everything out in the visitors center.
There is even a music museum.

You can hike, follow a trail, visit a the museum or “get yo exercise on” by walking down the MANY stairs to the amphitheater stage. There has been some amazing shows on this stage with World reknown artists. Maybe one day this kid will play here! Dream big baby!

I am hoping to see a show there in August!!!! One of our favorite bands is playing!!!! I HOPE we get to go !!! If you love reggae, check out this line up. https://www.redrocksonline.com/events/detail/reggae-on-the-rocks-2020

3. U.S Mint

My older Son is a history nerd – Very anylytcial and loves anything to do with history, reading, law, politics and museums. We surprised him by getting tickets to go to tour the U.S Mint while we were in Denver. This was the highlight of the trip for him!

Here he is with his “rare” collector coins.

On the tour they talk about the History behind the U.S Mint as well as the U.S currency system. The tour is not self guided and it is high security at all times. You are asked to not bring in bags and to have your cell phone turned off while inside the building and during the tour. You are not allowed to take video or snap photos. Believe me… You will be so engaged with the information and tour, that you wont need to spend time on Facebook! ha ha

Fresh pressed penny! I wont say anymore.. I want you to experience the tour!
This is as close to the building I could get to take a picture!

Coins..Coins..Coins…

These coins had not been released to the public yet when we were on the tour! We had one of the 1st coins!

Collector Coins

Cool gift shop with Unique Coins for sale.

I encourage you to add this to your list if you have time. The tour is not lengthy so you can do this on a day that you have other activities planned.

Please note- You MUST get tickets ahead of time. Check out their website for more info. https://www.usmint.gov/about/mint-tours-facilities/denver/visiting-the-denver-mint

All lit up for the Holidays!

4. Union Station

Travel by train! There is a connection from the airport to this railway. Union Station is an actual working rail station. But its like no other station that you’ve seen! Hip, cozy and magnificent. There are eateries and shops inside, places to sit and relax and there is even a Hotel located above the station. Take the train or stop by for a cup of coffee and check the station out.

Christmas time at the Station was beautiful
We enjoyed a Holiday bazaar/ fair while we were there.
Amtrak ticket center
walk through these doors and you will be amazed by the decor, tall ceilings and more
lots of places to sit and relax
